| DESCRIPTION | |
| Germination: | April-September. |
| Reproduction: | By seed, July-October. |
| Stems: | Erect, stout, branched, often red at base. |
| Leaves: | Simple, alternate, long-petioled, hairs on underside. |
| Flowers/ Inflorescence: |
Terminal panicle of several crowded stout spikes. Eight inches long and up to two inches wide, very stiff bracts up to 1/4 inch long. |
| Fruit: | Small black seeds, 1/32 inch diameter. |
FOUND: |
Statewide, but mostly eastern counties. |
CONTROL: |
Can be controlled in newly spring planted alfalfa and in thinning stands with BUTYRAC 200 and PURSUIT. |
