| DESCRIPTION | |
| Germination: | May-July. |
| Reproduction: | By seed July-September. |
| Stems: | Erect to decumbent, forming clumps. |
| Leaves: | Sheaths flattened at base; blades 1/8 inch wide. |
| Flowers/ Inflorescence: |
Spikes terminal, horizontally spreading 2 to 6 inches, 1 fertile floret/spikelet with whole inflorescence breaking from plant at maturity. |
| Fruit: | Seed unit with lemma and palea attached, with awn several times longer than seed. |
FOUND: |
Throughout the state in thinning stands. Not considered a major competitor. Occupies the spaces between the alfalfa plants, and prevents establishment of weedy annuals. |
CONTROL: |
No good herbicide option for control. |
